RGV’s 3D horror film!

Ram Gopal Varma has always been on the hot seat, everything he does turns out to be a controversy. However even after much flak RGV is in no mood to give up! Ramu is now making India’s first 3D horror film titled simply - Warning!Although he is still fighting for Jana Gana Mana Rann in the tribunal, RGV is already busy casting for this movie. Ritiesh Deshmukh was the first one to step on board.

“If you think you have experienced everything there is to experience in fear, just wait for Warning. It’s a horror film in 3D that gives an extraordinary experience of an extremely heightened sense of realism.” Says RGV. “This sense of realism is something only 3D can create. The best possible application of this form of realism is possible only in a horror film.” RGV wants the viewers to feel what it is to be in the horror movie and not simply watch it.

Sanjay Gadhvi’s next starring Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif

Sanjay Gadhavi is all set for his next film titled ‘7 Days in Paris’, a romantic comedy starring Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif. This romantic comedy is set in Paris and so the apt title of 7 Days in Paris.Almost 85% of the film will be shot in Paris and the remaining scenes will be shot in Mumbai and London. Sanjay seems pretty excited about the script and says that its never been done before in Bollywood. "It's a uniquely structured script, but I can't reveal much at this stage." Says the Kidnap director.

Katrina and Imran have been paired together for the first time ever and people on the sets say that they get along like a house on fire. Also Katrina keeps teasing Imran about her being taller and heavier, but Imran used to keep denying. Until one day he cracked and got a measuring tape and a weighing scale and proved her wrong on both counts.

Vashu Bhagnani goes all out for Kal Kissne Dekha

Everybody knows Aamir is a born genius when it comes to marketing a product and that is the reason his films are on the tips of everyone’s tongues these days. But now Vashu Bhagnani is making his attempt at the marketing genius crown. His plan is to infiltrate the audiences with a first of its kind on-ground promotional activity. The cast and crew of this movie will head out to 6 different cities on a music tour.

The tour will feature music directors Sajid-Wajid and Sunidhi Chauhan performing on stage. The movie is slated for a 29th May release in single screens all over, directed by Vivek Sharma and produced by Vashu Bhagnani.

Vidya Balan refuses to liplock with Arshad Warsi

Vidya Balan created a ruckus on the sets of Ishqiya recently when she refused to do a kissing scene she had initially agreed to do. Vidya suddenly developed a mood swing and said no to a liplock scene with her co-star Arshad Warsi in the film.

The scene was an intimate one which involved Arshad and Vidya but when she refused to smooch she shocked everyone. She had been informed earlier about the scene so naturally director Abhishek Chaubey was taken aback. He called producer Vishal Bhardwaj and informed him about the happening, but he was busy editing his other project Kaminey and so the scene was dropped altogether.

5th largest multiplex chain will set up 110 screens in India

Although the black cloud of strike between producers and multiplexes still persists in India, there is a silver lining. Cinepolis, a Mexican brand of multiplexes is all set to invest Rs 3.70 billion (Rs 370 crores) for approximately 110 screens in India. They are planning to set up within the second half of 2009 and will spend nearly Rs 35 million (3.5 crore) on each screen. Cinepolis India will be headed by Milan Saini as country head and is in talks with mall developers across eight cities to build these screens.

This is however just their first phase, as the head confirms, they are planning on setting up nearly 500 screens in the next 7 years and to each screen will be a dedicated $ 700 thousand.A company that was founded in 1947, has now more than 2000 screens across 6 countries in the world.

Aamir will re-release Raakh – digitally re-mastered

In what many would call his breakthrough movie… Aamir Khan is all set to release Raakh again the movie that showed that he can be much more than just a chocolate boy in Indian cinema. “I have worked very hard on this film and invested my entire self and ability in it. ... I learnt a lot during its making.”

This was the movie that launched Aamir out of his earlier chocolate boy image and from there on the genius that we know came into play.

Well there are some interesting facts about this movie, first is the power packed star cast in this film.. Made by then first time director 23 year old Aditya Bhattacharya (Bimal Roy’s grandson and Basu Bhattacharya’s son) who was backed by a visionary producer - 32 year old Asif Noor. The cinematographer was Santosh Sivan and Sreekar Prasad, national award winning editor of more than 70 films. The music was by musician Ranjit Barot. director Sangeeth Sivan was an executive producer on the film. The film also starred celebrated actor couple, Pankaj Kapoor and Supriya Pathak in key roles.

The movie is a double national award winning film and for those of you who haven’t seen it … you have to watch it.

It’s Qurbaan, not Jehaad!

Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan’s next film with Dharma Productions has been officially titled Qurbaan. The movie that laid untitled uptill now has finally got a name and all the rumours of titles like Jehaad and others are rubbished. Saif Ali Khan and Kareena will play terrorists in the film and so the theme of terrorism will be retained.

The makers wanted to stay away from the controversy that the film had already created abroad because of its suspicious titling. Of course the title Jehaad would not go down well with the people in the west because the literal translation of the word means Holy War.

Now Karan and Rensil are planning to call a press conference to correct the media perception of the film. The narration of the film is apparently stiff and its not your usual dance and sing along hindi movie. Also even more the film has one of the boldest love scenes in Bollywood happening between real life lovers Kareena and Saif.

Strike Still On – No Sign of Relief
The meeting between the producers and the multiplexes on Monday resulted in nothing but the same results that every other meeting has produced. The crucial meeting between the producers and the multiplexes that was held at the Grand Hyatt in Santacruz, Mumbai. Everyone thought that this would be the one meeting where the consensus would resolve.

The terms offered by multiplexes are -
Week 1: 50% [UPDF demand: 50%]
Week 2: 42.5% [45%]
Week 3: 32.5% [40%]
Week 4: 27.5% [30%]

The producers and the multiplexes have not arrived at any conclusion and the strike will persist. The producers will release their films in only single screens and the multiplexes will be sent to the cleaners. The next meeting on the same has not yet been decided.

Aamir may act opposite Kate Winslet in his next.

Aamir Khan loves portraying some thing completely different everytime. You saw him as the short-term memory loss patitent in Ghajini, the rebel with a cause in Rang De Basanti, a cricketer in Lagaan a Sardarji in an ad and a specialist teacher in Taare Zameen Par and now he is all set to helm the role of a mad man in his next film.

This film is all set to break barriers between the west and Bollywood as Oscar winner Kate Winslet has been approached to play the female lead opposite Aamir Khan.

The film is to be directed by Pan Nalin who made the previous film Valley Of Flowers.

The film is based on S'aadat Hassan Manto's famous short story Toba Tek Singh.

While Aamir has been roped in to play the title role of Toba Tek Singh, Nalin has approached Oscar-winner Kate Winslet to play Dr. Sophie.

The film actors have not yet been decided but Nalin has said that if Kate doesn’t agree that he will approach Oscar-winner Rachel Wiesz for the role.

Aamir Khan is set to do an 'item number'

Aamir Khan is all for the uncanny, and this time he's going to do his nephew Imran another favour. For Delhi Belly, in which Imran Khan plays lead opposite Shenaz Treasurywala, Aamir also has a walk on role and other than that he will be seen in an item number. Now Aamir is a perfectionist and this time too he's all set to perfection the dance floor.

Aamir will do a disco dance number in the film that is sure to add x number of ticket sales to the film. Given that Aamir record of hits are really high, looks like the actor is all set to make another film that will skyrocket his nephew.

Directed by ace ad filmmaker Abhinay Deo, Delhi Belly would also see Imran in a new lean look, which he has worked hard at by losing kilos.

Pixar film ‘Up’ has opens the 62nd Cannes Film Festival

The Cannes Film Festival, one of the most prestigious film festivals all over the world had a grand opening with the world premiere of Pixar’s new 3D animation ‘Up’.This marked the first time that Cannes opened up with a 3D animated film. The screening saw a whole load of high profile celebrities wearing 3D animation glasses.

Besides that Brad Pitt, Penelope Cruz and Johnny Depp are also all due in town, with new films to promote. The event runs until 24 May, when the Palme d'Or prize will be announced.India too will see its share of Cannes this year.

Chal Chalein by debutante director Ujjwal Singh, Nagendra Karri's 'Where are you Sophia?' and Irfan Kamal's 'Thanks Ma' will be screened at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival.Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori starrer ‘Kites’ will also premiere at Cannes, but only to a special audience of buyers from the west. The film will not be screened for media and public glare.

Hrithik and Aishwarya doing a Bhansali once again
Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai are all set to dazzle the silver screen once again because they have just signed on for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next project Guzzaarish.

There are a couple of highlights that one must not miss out about this film, one is that the explosive Jodhaa Akbar couple is back and the second is that the music for this film will be composed entirely by Bhansali himself.

Bhansali is taken up by the idea that some legendary directors did the music of their films all by themselves eg: Satyajit Ray

According to sources, Bhansali has completed four of the proposed eight tracks in the film.

Currently, Roshan is busy with his next film Kites and Aishwarya is busy with her next film Raavana, but this film is expected to hit the floors by July.

Hrithik and Barbara Mori to promote Kites at Cannes.
Hrithik Roshan along with his Kites co-star Barbara Mori are going to promote their big budget film Kites at Cannes this year. The film will screen there although the current strike in India is forbidding producers to screen their movies at Cannes, like ‘Kambakkth Ishq which was supposed to have its premiere at Cannes.

But technically, Kites isn’t breaking any rules, because the film won't be screened for the public or the media at Cannes; instead this is just a screening for potential buyers from the West.

A specially prepared trailer will also be screened to attract potential international buyers. And so the makers of Kites are going full throttle to ensure that the film gets maximum publicity across various media.

“I only wanted publicity” – Ram Gopal Varma

Ram Gopal Varma has done it once again, he’s made controversy a big part of his marketing campaign for his next film, and as always it worked, but this time he may have gone a little overboard. RGV took the national anthem and deliberately turned it into part of a theme/promo for ‘Rann’, and this didn’t go down lightly with certain nationalists.

Now RGV has found himself in a difficult position, because the Central Board for Film Certification has denied the filmmaker permission to air his song Jana Gana Mana Rann Hai. Reason stated - the song violates guidelines 219 of Section 5B2 of the Cinematography Act and the lines Jana Gana Mana are a violation of the National Honour Act of 1971. So now RGV, leaving all his confidence aside says “The Rann song is not the national anthem. It’s just inspired by what the national anthem stands for.” And he comes clean on the entire though of making such a controversy – only one reason stands behind it – publicity. “Of course, I have done it for publicity,” RGV snapped. “Any material that goes out of a filmmaker’s office by way of interviews, audio-visuals, music pieces or anything else is to garner publicity for his film. I have made a film and I want as many people out there as possible to know that it will soon come to their theatres. I also want them to know what the film is going to be all about. I ask you, if I had known that this was going to happen, would I deliberately turn people off my film?”

UTV signs on Genelia for Yahoo

The bubbly Genelia D’Souza has been signed by UTV Motion Pictures for Ken Ghosh’s “Yahoo” where she stars opposite Shahid Kapoor.Genelia is the perfect fit for the role because of her bubbly image. She made her mark in the industry with her refreshing performance as

Aditi played in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. It surely looks like she is going to be the next big thing in Bollywood. After working with Imran Khan, Genelia is now paired opposite the teen sensation Shahid Kapoor. UTV Motion Pictures COO Ram Mirchandani confirms the development,

“It’s Genelia’s second film with UTV, and she shares a very good rapport with the company. The script of the movie had undergone a number of changes and after it was reworked and enhanced, the actress who seemed to completely fit the newly etched role of the effervescent choreographer was in fact Genelia. The revised role is tailor-made for her. Genelia heard the script and after giving it considerable amount of thought, she made her decision and agreed to come on board. We are sure that Shahid and Genelia will be the next cute pair to win hearts all over. We are happy and honored to have Genelia as part of the UTV family.”

Films will release after every two weeks

Bollywood films are slated to release in single screens and stand alone multiplexes and after making this decision, the producers have now come up with a way to avoid their films into eating up profits of the other releases. The producers have decided that each new film will release after a gap of two weeks.

The films will start releasing from May 29th onwards so therefore if Kal Kissne Dekha will release on the 12th of June, then the next big release will be around the 29th of June.

In the meanwhile the multiplexes have decided to buy new films from producers and screen them. they have decided to buy from some certain production houses already.

Anthony D’Souza signs on Sonal Chauhan for his next

Anthony D’Souza, the director of the much hyped debut Blue has already begun signing up for his next film, an action-adventure drama.Anthony has zeroed in on Sonal Chauhan to play the female lead opposite John Abraham

“Yes, we’ve met and I’m doing Tony’s film,” said the “Jannat” girl Sonal Chauhan, who herself approached Tony when she came to know about his film.Sonal has not had many movies till date maybe because she’s been on a rejecting spree, because she rejected the Bhatt’s ‘Jashan’.

The latest controversy in Sonal’s career is a fake website that someone launched, apparently pretending to be her.“When I heard about it I couldn’t let it go because I was launching my own website. I put my lawyers on to the imposter. We tracked the culprit down and brought him to book. I think it’s very important for known people in our entertainment industry to stand up against cyber crimes. We take them too casually and encourage hackers and imposters,” said Sonal, who completed a Kannada film after “Jannat”.

Aamir Khan chooses a 9 year old star this time

Aamir Khan has done it again after choosing Darsheel Safary for ‘Taare Zameen Par’ as one of the main characters in the film, he has gone ahead and chosen nine-year-old Parul for his next home production The Falling. No this is no rags-to-riches story like Slumdog, but this is a seriously thought of project like any other Aamir Khan Production. The movie will get directed by Anushka Rizvi and will deal on the issue of farmer suicides and the plight of Indian farmers.

Parul has really struck gold here as she will be playing a farmers daughter in the movie.Parul comes from Muzzafarpur in Bihar and bagged the role after Aamir watched her in a play.

Parul has a lengthy role in the film and Aamir is absolutely thrilled that he has found talent like her for his next film. Parul has already begun shooting for the film and is a big star in her hometown, we wish her all the best!

No Love Aaj Kal for Kareena

Saif Ali Khan has been shooting so much these days that the actor has absolutely no time to even be with his superstar girlfriend Kareena Kapoor. So much so that Kareena cant even recognize Saif anymore. At a trial show for Imitiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal, Saif Ali Khan was dressed up as a Sardar and Kareena just couldn’t recognize him at all. “This has got to be the most convincing disguise ever on screen. Even I got taken in, people will forget Saif is a Khan. They'll think he's a Sardarji.”

Kareena and Saif both have very busy schedules going on, Saif is busy with Love Aaj Kal, Agent Vinod and Rensil D’Silva’s untitled next and Kareena has her hands full with a whole load of other films.

‘Love Aaj Kal’ is Saif Ali Khan’s first production and will also stars Kareena Kapoor.

RGV twists and turns the National Anthem for Rann promo.

Ram Gopal Varma has made it a habit to create controversies for the publicity of his movies. Some may call it cheap, while others may consider it ingenious, but be it what it may, this time RGV seems to have outdone himself. The maverick filmmaker has twisted and turned the lyrics of the national anthem to fit into the theme of his movie Rann. This is the first of its kind where somebody has centered their movie promos on our nation’s song.

But looks like RGV was already prepared to face the consequences for his actions because at the movies first look at a press meet in Delhi he stated - "I have not tinkered with the national anthem. Tinkering would be if I would have shown it in bad light. I haven't done anything of this sort. Through this song, we are talking about the disputes in the country but there were no intentions to ridicule anything,"

RGV was also sure about the song not creating any controversy whatsoever -"I think no one will have a problem with it. It's something I felt in my heart and it was my idea to place the song like this. It is based on the script of my film and I don't think there's any offence in it. Yet, if there is a problem, we will deal with that," he said.

Amitabh Bachchan, also present at the meet, showed complete faith in RGV’s move and the producers of the movie - "I am sure that before doing something, the producers have taken adequate legal actions. I have faith in them and I do believe that they have adhered to the requirements (of using the national anthem).”

Rann is a movie based on exposing the real happenings in the world of media and how media barons can take news and turn it into entertainment for monetary benefits.

Akshay and Kareena will trod the red carpet at Cannes this year

Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor the leading pair of Kambakht Ishq will walk the red carpet at Cannes this year and they will walk proudly with superstar Sylvester Stallone.

Kambakkth Ishq is all set to release at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

Kambakkth Ishq is a multi-starrer that has Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards and Brandon Routh in action scenes for the movie.

Now our bolly actors consider this to be a real privilege walking with these stars and here’s what they have to say about it.

“When in my early years I was working in Bangkok, I had three posters in my room - that of Sridevi, Bruce Lee and Sylvester Stallone,” Akshay chuckled, and Kareena couldn’t contain her excitement saying “It would be lovely to walk the red carpet with Sylvester Stallone. How many of our actors would get that privilege?”

Strike will persist - Bollywood producers and multiplexes don’t agree.
The producers & multiplex owners met yesterday to resolve the profit sharing percentage but after a long discussion there seemed to be no resolve. The two parties failed to resolve and reach a mutual understanding about the revenue sharing of films according to insiders.

Going back, let’s take a look at how all this started.

Back in Feb, producers and multiplexes had a fallout regarding the profit sharing percentage, the producers wanted a 50% cut in all the profits while the multiplexes wanted a 50-40-30% profit cut during subsequent weeks after the release day.

The United Producers and Distributors Forum (UPDF) declared early March not to push any new film in multiplexes April 4 onwards.

“The talks have stalled as multiplex (owners) are not willing to come up with more than the 50-40-30 ratio and are rigid on their stand. We are now formalizing a plan to release all new films in single screens and independent multiplexes across the country,” Mukesh Bhatt, the spokesperson for UPDF.

The producers are stating that even though they are willing to negotiate the cut, the multiplexes are not budging at all and are completely firm about their stand.

The producers in the meanwhile have started releasing their older films in single screens.

“Since there is no resolution on the national chain of multiplex issue, UTV will proceed to start releasing its big and small movies in single screen theaters and non-national chain multiplexes nationwide July onwards,” said Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO UTV Motion Pictures.

Shiney and Soha’s ‘Accident’ in Goa

Actors Shiney Ahuja and Soha Ali Khan have been paired together once again for a film that is tentatively titled Accident. After their successful pairing in Khoya Khoya Chand their new film is being shot as secretly and quickly in Goa as possible.

It is being titled Accident, but the title has not been confirmed. The movie is being produced by Pritish Nandy Communications and will be “a start to finish quicky that will star Soha and Shiney” says Pritish Nandy.

The movie is being directed by Abhijeet Chaudhuri who had earlier made a Bengali film Patalghar. Chaudhuri is more known amongst the ad-filmmakers circle and has made ads for brands like Bata and Coca Cola and Castrol.

“At a time when no new films are being announced and big films are suffering for finances, we don't think its right to start a film with any fanfare. Better to do it quietly. We complete 'Accident' in 23 days.” says Nandy

The movie will fall into the thriller genre and will host a unique idea behind it, the intricate twists and turns could be revealed by anyone who overhears a dialogue or captures a shot on a mobile phone camera.

Genelia D’Souza’s Yahoo in Bollywood

Hottie Genelia D’Souza has hit it big time in Bollywood after her first hit Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na last year is all set for 4 releases this year. The actress is quite nervous about her stint with Shahid Kapur in Yahoo where she will be playing a choreographer in the film.

This will be her first film with Shahid Kapur and she’s quite nervous about her dancing scenes with Shahid who is a professional dancer. “I’m nervous as hell to match steps with him” says Genelia. Besides this there are three other films in the pipeline, Boney Kapoor’s Its My Life, Abbas Mustan’s Life Partner and UTV’s Hook Ya Crook. All these movies are slated for a ’09 release.

Luckly for me each of the roles are different, but for now I’m Yahoo in Bollywood.

Intense Irrfan No More!

Irrfan Khan has risen to success with his amazing performances and acting and his typical intense performances have granted him accolades. But now looks like the intensity has hit the fan. Irrfan can’t take it anymore and is really serious about dropping his intense vibes.

“I have done many movies and experimented with them too. If I have done Haasil and Maqbool and a lighter character in Life In A Metro, but people know me only for my serious roles and that to me isn’t a great achievement.  I don’t want to be the intense guy anymore” says the anxious Irrfan.

He will next be seen in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s next film Paan Singh Tomar and Irrfan will be playing an athlete in the film.

Katrina bumps Sonam Kapoor for a role in Dibakar Banerjee’s next

Katrina Kaif’s accent has finally done some good for her because that’s exactly what Dibakar Banerjee was looking out for. Katrina has always had problems landing roles because of her English accent but now it looks like she’s finally struck gold.

Interestingly someone else was also eyeing this gold-role, Sonam Kapoor! Sonam was extremely keen to work with the national award winning director and Anil Kapoor had high hopes for his daughter to work with this director. But unfortunately this role was written with Katrina in mind and so obviously Sonam had to step aside.

Katrina will act opposite Abhay Deol and Imran Khan in the movie that will show Katrina’s character as partly firangi and so it seems but natural to choose Katrina.

Karan Johar does not plagiarize

Karan Johar is known to make over the top movies with huge star casts and sets, he’s done it all but there is one thing that the superstar has not done and he doesn’t intend to either, plagiarize! Whenever Karan puts his name on to a film or a movie he makes sure its completely authentic.

So what about his next film with Kareena and Kajol in the lead which is said to be based on the Hollywood film Stepmom? He just went about and bought the rights to the film from the producers. Karan does not want to get into any type of allegations and so has made a smart move by doing this.

Hollywood is getting wiser to the tactics of Bollywood filmmakers who use their ideas to spin movies off in India and put their trademark on it. the makers of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button had even placed a warning in the papers to all those who try and copy the film.

So Karan has saved himself from all the allegations and even embarrassment this way.

Dil Chahta Hai team has a fallout

Shahrukh Khan may not be the reigning best anymore with all the new superstars and the khans getting better with every film, but he still knows how to play the game! The cold war between him and Aamir has been going on for a long time but he is still determined to play the game.

Aamir who was slated to play the lead in Reema Kagti’s next film was adding huge star value to the already existing cast, so naturally the smart khan was bound to ask for a whopper. So when Ritesh Sidhwani, the producer of the film, approached Aamir to discuss the sensitive matters of pay and finances, he was shocked to find Aamir making big demands and asking for a sizeable percentage of the profits.

The source mentions that “Ritesh had gone to meet Aamir on the sets of 3 Idiots to finalise the deal, but was seen storming out of the sets after what apparently was a misunderstanding over term and conditions.”

Farhan and Ritesh were like family and after making cult films like Dil Chahta Hai they never worked together again. But now looks like the fall out could have some effect on their relationships as well.

Ritesh Sidhwani confirmed the happenings saying “Yes it is true that we were working on the film with Aamir and were supposed to start it but now it is not happening.”

Ram Gopal Varma to re-launch Vivek Oberoi

Vivek Oberoi is going through the longest dry spell of his career and with no movies in sight it seemed that this actor was not going to get the limelight for a long time! But until now. After surviving several assassination attempts, Ravi was gunned down by a death squad allegedly put together by his arch rival Suri who wanted to avenge his father's and brother's deaths.

Ramu feels that Vivek will bring justice to his role and his remarkable intensity, commanding voice and arrogance will do justice to the role.

Ramu is surprised with the way Vivek has prepared for the role “In just three days, he was ready with his research and look tests. I was sold on the look. I was absolutely convinced that my search had ended.”
